Hi Rob

You might find the license keys something of a challenge to obtain if you
don't have support.

I've actually upgraded a couple of machines without support ('all care no
responsibility'). Customers had ordered V5R4 and got the keys before they
went off support.

Realistically if the upgrade goes bad you can always restore. It's not the
scariest thing I've ever done.

Evan Harris

Aaron,

Two items:

Can the machine run V5R4?
That can be answered at:
http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/i/planning/upgrade/osmapping.html
but also check out the Memo To Users for load source disk size, etc.

Should you upgrade a machine without maintenance?
One can, but I wouldn't. I'd be scared without support. And I'd make
sure you had the license keys before plowing ahead.
