Another reason is that many AS/400 applications do away with
newfangled stuff like commitment control, journalling and other
technologies that are primarely used to preserve data integrity. This
can make those applications significantly faster on slower Power
hardware than properly engineered PC applications.
On the other side, properly engineered IBM i applications will also
use commitment control and journalling, both of which cost
performance.
