Performance depends on the machine you have. A 20'000 US$ System x
Server will curb stomp a 20'000 US$ Power system in terms of CPU, IO,

Java is native to no OS. But you need OpenSSH in PASE to get decent
access to Java on the IBM i. That's very, very clunky. There's also no
graphics output of any kind, which may break certain libraries.
