Stay away from IBM POS products if you use products that need OPOS.

The Epson OPOS stack is one of the least buggiest out there and works
rather well.

We sell a POS solution that integrates with our IBM i based ERP
software, but i doubt it's interesting to the OP unless he plans to
open stores in Switzerland. The POS terminals run Windows Embedded
PosReady 2009.

A good and fast way to tell if a POS solution is any good (from a
technical standpoint) is if the insist on shipping their product on
Windows Embedded. I've seen way to many POS suppliers that sell
solutions based on Windows XP Professional, licensed without reimaging
rights and reimaged without using Sysprep. Also, security updates,
virus scanners and software management needs to be deployed and
managed. I've seen it more than once that customers didn't install
virus scanners or run security updates on their POS terminals - and
half a year later all their POS terminals were infected.

Of course, POS systems can also run on Linux, but i've seen few of
them - all of them completely outdated and full of security. A
properly maintained Linux image will probably be better than Windows
Embedded from a TCO and operations standpoint, but a poorly maintained
one will be far worse.
