Re: AS400 having issue with smtp

The problem is most likely the Exchange server not allowing relaying to
outside addresses, since the iSeries isn't signing into Exchange like a PC
user does. Have your Exchange Admin allow email from the iSeries and that
will solve this. I have this similar problem at most customers when I set
up their HMC and it sends out email alerts. It always goes to the email
addresses in the local domain, but never to me until I have the Exchange
Admin open up for email that comes from the HMC.

But when I sent a test to an outside email it never makes it to the
exchange server. Never shows in the exchange transaction logs,
internal email test do show.

Probably not relevant to the situation at hand, but:

I've seen cases where the native SMTP and MSF got into a fight with
something else (Lotus Notes, I think) over (if memory serves) the SMTP
port. The results were not pretty, and so long as the fight continued,
it kept anything that went through MSF from working.
