Which technique you propose for downloading file from PC to AS

Hi guys

which solution you will propose for such issue:
I have four PC in four location where production programs creating a import files (txt). The name for each file is diffrent because contain the timestamp.
Now we have java programs (on four other PC) which looking if new files exist on production PC and then upload it to AS400. But this is complicated and not certainly solution.
So now we thinking about some tool which will be run on AS400 and will check directly production PC's and download this import files.
But how to do it? By ftp? What do you propose?
