Not everyone is so lucky as to be able to keep current. One of the bolt-on
packages we use with JDE has no upgrade path to i6.1 except to move to that
company's newer package (or a competitor). The migration effort is enormous
and would involve many man-months of work with no real value other than to
be able to upgrade the OS. That has some intrinsic value, sure, but not
enough to justify the effort. Oh, we'd also have to update the JDE level,
which is major enough that a code review of customizations would be
necessary.

So even though the OS upgrade is free, we'd be talking six figures worth of
labor to be able to do it.

Too much effort with too little payoff. By all accounts we will likely just
freeze the JDE LPARs at V5R3. The EnterpriseOne LPARs are already at i6.1.
So we'll be a mixed-release shop for the next several years.

Great, now the vendors can put off upgrading their software to pass

IBM needs to update this site:

I dropped any vendor that kept dragging their feet and switched packages.

And I converted my last lpar to 6.1 back in June of two thousand EIGHT.
