Pete,

I've been doing that (running iSeries Access 6.1 against a V5R4 i5/OS System i) since it came out. Installed it a couple of weeks ago on my boss' PC. Works great. As you said, the functions that need an IBM i 6.1 OS aren't useable, but I can't remember what those are from the documentation. Our BP ordered the 6.1 iSeries Access upgrade for me as a Refresh. Since we have an SWMA, it was no charge.

Yes, you can run V6R1 of iSeries Access on your PC, and connect to an IBM i
that is running V5R4. You aren't running it on a V5R4 machine, you are
accessing a v5R4 machine with V6R1 of iSeries Access. Some of the new
(Stress NEW) functions in the 6.1 client, may not work when accessing a V5R4
machine, as the functionality on the host isn't there.

Can I install iSeries Access V6R1 client may pc and run it on a V5R4
i5OS machine?

Are there any improvements in V6R1 that might be a benefit?

ie: DBCS stuff?

Jerry
