The folks in the "p" group could learn a lot from the "i" folks, that is for sure. You are much better off starting the troubleshooting with the "i" folks, even if you are convinced it is a HW or VIOS issue (for us few folks on blade). The thing I learned (quickly) was that calling the SupportLine, even on VIOS (which is basically AIX) would get much better follow through.

IBM i support is top notch. Once they lose that, the i is doomed.....

You're a customer - anything is OK to ask - seriously. And I've had experiences like Rob - they stay with you until it gets right. Or they want to send you to ConsultLine, but they have sat with me to set up remote support - electronic service agent or whatever. Always thorough.

Would IBM support also walk me through the process of adding my "hot swap"
drive to the 4 drive array and doing a reinstall of the OS? I admittently
only call IBM when a customer of mine has issues, and that is usually when
Apache or SSL is causing headaches. I don't know what is a "ok" thing for
me to ask of them.

Jeff,

When this happens, don't beat your head into the wall like Aaron. Call
IBM. I did just that while doing some side work helping set up a box with
Lan Console. They talked me through a lot. Try it yourself but as soon
as you get stuck, call. Since the documents refer you to nonexistent web
sites and stuff, it shouldn't take long to get stuck.
