Would you be able to relay a sanitized version of the commands and their
sequence? I have worked with image catalogs on the IBM VLP systems, but
there always seems to be a good number of steps involved and I haven't been
able to make sense of some of the steps (yet).

Aaron,

We are on V5R4. I have created an optical image catalog to save to, and
backup what is required to that image file with the appropriate i5/os save
commands. The image file is then copied from the IFS to a file server on
the network right after the save is complete. I use the QNTC links on the
iSeries to copy the IFS file. I automated the whole thing in a CL program.
You could copy/move/FTP that image to any storage medium from the IFS.
