Lukas, again, you are my admin lifesaver. I owe you a beer the next time I
see you. Actually, we are probably up to a couple pitchers of beer by now
:-)

Question:
In the "Hardware & Console" step 4, what should I specify for the "Service
host name" field when configuring the ops console? I configured my ASMI HMC
1 ethernet port to be 192.168.0.12 which I am guessing is NOT the IP address
I should be using. I configured my laptop to have a static IP of
192.168.0.20.

You should know that when I was following the ASMI directions earlier it
said to go into Network Configuration. I configured eth0 for ipv4 and gave
it the following other settings:
host name=white
IP address=192.168.0.12
Subnet mask=255.255.255.0
Default gateway=192.168.0.1
Domain name: mowyourlawn.com
and then added two IP addresses for two known working DNS servers.

Thanks,
Aaron Bartell

Forget it. You should follow this guide:

http://wiki.midrange.com/index.php/GettingStarted

While it was written by an uneducated peasant, it's a lot more
accurate and to the point than the IBM documentation. At least that's
what i believe.

So my question is this: How do I tell if an OS is preinstalled?

By the SRC codes i'd say. If you get a C600 SRC, there must be
something on the machine.

Note I was able to get ASMI up and running and can view firmware settings
and easily reboot the machine. When I boot, it stops at a A9002000 which
is

x900 Codes means that it's IBM i OS talking to you. There's a console
issue.

The HMC ports are for ASMI, not for the operations console. Just read
the guide above and you should be fine.
