Terry,

Thanks for the compliment, I always enjoy speaking at that
conference.

You normally apply your PTFs permanently when you would upgrade, so
when you perform this step you would have both the A & B side of i5/OS the
same, which would then carry forth down to the FSP (both P & T sides) the
same. I would highly recommend that both the P & T were at the 338 level
before upgrading to V6R1. It will only take one IPL, and better safe if you
were to have to IPL the FSP from the P side.

Pete

Subject: v6r1 upgrade question - Firmware

Good afternoon

I'm trying to determine if a v5r3 machine is at the proper firmware level to
go to v6r1. I attended Pete Massiello's excellent session on this at the
NEMUG meeting in the spring, so I know it has to be at SF240-332 or higher.
I just loaded the latest cume package and the FLASHLEVELS screen in SST
shows as follows:

Display Formatted Data

Page/Line. . . 1 /
1
Columns. . . : 1 - 78

Find . . . . . . . . . . .

....+....1....+....2....+....3....+....4....+....5....+....6....+....7....+.
..
DISPLAY/ALTER/DUMP

Running macro: FLASHLEVELS

LS Flash Sync Enabled.

OS MANAGED

Base Level: SF240_219

Side Date/Time MI Keyword PTFs (V5R3M5)

------------- ------------- ----------
-------------------------------
Memory 20071210/1157 SF240_338 MH01052

Flash P 20061118/1409 SF240_284 MH00904

Flash T 20071210/1157 SF240_338 MH01052

Load Source A 20061118/1409 SF240_284 MH00904

Load Source B 20071210/1157 SF240_338 MH01052

Bottom
F2=Find F3=Exit F4=Top F5=Bottom F10=Right F12=Cancel

I see that load source B is at a sufficient level. Does load source A need
to be at 332 or better as well?

Thanks-
