I think they will be disappointed.

I get the same impression. We've done some speculating in this thread and some folks could get their hopes up that Open I/O could lead to an ultimate interface for browsers and other GUI clients - and be terribly disappointed.

I do envision some use of Open I/O for browsers and GUI clients and some applications. But I see more potential for connecting RPG programs to remote databases on other platforms.

Today we see Java, PHP, and .Net GUI applications interfacing with back-end RPG stored procedures to implement IBM i DB I/O and business logic. Tomorrow we may see RPG GUI applications connecting to MS SQL server, and implementing DB I/O through generic Open I/O interfaces.
