Actually, to Mark's point, I think it depends on the vendor. I don't see that someone can't develop handlers for a later release than their product is based on. Put it out there are a separate component for, say, 7.1 only. IBM provide virtual loaners to partners, so that'd make it easier to deal with new releases.

Yeah, if an ISV is an application vendor, and supporting their own well established interfaces and programming models, it could be a while before they use Open I/O in their products. But 3rd parties who want to write new streamlined database and device management interfaces for RPG developers may be able to jump on this right away.
