If you buy them IBM branded - yes. If you buy them directly, they have
pretty reasonable prices for the performance they offer. The X25-M
80GB ships for 289US$ from Newegg. (Interesting tidbit: It's 279 CHF
here, including next-day-shipping. That's 273US$).

That's not much. About the price of a screen. And dual monitor setups
are standard for developers. I have an older OCZ SSD in my work
laptop. Love it. Got an Intel one in my desktop at home. Even better.

Last time i heard, IBM still charged 10'000$ per piece plus a monthly
maintenance charge. (Granted, these are probably SLC drives that
retail for roughly 1000$, Intel X25-E series). Problem is, even the
MLC drives are faster than what IBM is shipping today. In a year or
two, things will probably different in the System x world, and hard
drives will only be used for archival purposes.
