QSH CMD('db2 "select cola, colb, colc from mytable where condition =
true" > /tmp/myfile.txt')

With the above, IFS file /tmp/myfile.txt will contain your output.
Try
it ... you might enjoy! :)

Interesting post Dennis - this is the first time I've seen a reference
to calling SQL from QSH. Are there any restrictions in calling SQL this
way? Are there any other references?

Just the usual restrictions that you'd have from, say, a STRSQL session.
For example, no cursors, no variable names and the like. It gets
interesting when you need to imbed apostrophes and/or quotes, but all this
is surmountable.

I *believe* this is documented in the QSH manual. If not, a search for UDDB
DB2 should produce nice fruit.

Now to find a use for it!

Ah, yes! There's the rub! :) Hint: your statement might look something
like this:

QSH CMD('db2 "select cola || ',' || colb || ',' || colc from mytable" >
/tmp/mycsv.csv
