If you use a Fiber interface for the tape library and connect the
library to a Fiber Switch, then you can connect each LPAR to the fiber
switch and zone the tape library so both LPARs can see it.

You will need to vary off the configurations on one LPAR before the
other LPAR could vary them on, but unlike moving I/O resources via
dynamic LPAR, both partitions can 'see' the library at the same time.

We have been using this set up with both LTO3 and LTO4 tape libraries
with great flexibility. For example, if one drive is unavailable, we
can vary on another tape library that is not in use.

HTH,
Glenn

BTW, LTO3 or LTO4 connected via fiber are really fast, another good
reason for using a fiber interface.

Subject: sharing a tape library between two partitions

I need to share a tape library between two partitions for backup using
BRMS which will use DDM so I have one database.

I know I can move a tape drive/library from one partition to another
with a pgm and that is an option.

What other ways can I share the tape library between two partitions?

Electric SCSI switch? Daisy chain SCSI devices? etc?

Jerry
