Holy Cow, Steve! Re-read what I wrote. I didn't say IBM transferred
everyone out of the Toronto Lab. I just said that a goodly number of
iSeries people were moved to other projects. A lot of good people were
still left working on iSeries development. And many of them are still
there doing good things.

ok, ok, sorry. I tried to qualify the statement enough to stay within
hyperbolic license.

I would like to be clear that my POV is different from both the "IBM i
is still viable" and the "use the platform as a stepping stone to
something else" camps. I think SLS could be significantly improved
with some R&D. There are a ton of enhancements that can be made to
the system simply in terms of SQL integration with the ILE languages.
If IBM agrees the system could be made better but does not think the
enhancements would sell enough to recoup the investment, open source
enough of the system so that others can do the work.
