Thanks for the information Spencer, I double checked on all that you
mentioned, and it looks right to me.

Is creating a file in a subdirectory (which I can do using the CPY command
from i5/OS and the cp utlity from qshell) different than creating a new
subdirectory (which fails when using the MD command or mkdir qshell
utility)? I have all authority to the disk array.

Any other place to look for why I am getting a failure? The job log has
absolutely no help.

Hi Jim,
For what it's worth:

• You must share the WIN/NT directory or parent where you want the file
placed.
• The path consists of the file system name, the Windows NT server-name,
the share-name, the directory and sub-directory names Path names have
the following form: /QNTC/Server-name/Share-name/Directory/ . . . /
• The server name may be up to 15 characters long. It must be part of
the path.
• The sharename may be up to 12 characters long.
• iSeries support for windows network neighborhood should be configured.
• The QSERVER subsystem must be active.
• NetServer must be started.
• The person/user enter the command must be a registered WIN/NT user
with “change” authority to the directory where you want the file placed.
The iSeries and WIN/NT password must be the same. The iSeries user may
be disabled but the WIN/NT user cannot.
• The iSeries domain must be the same as the WIN/NT domain.

If you are having trouble, check the following:
• Use the WRKLNK command and insure that the destination location exists
as a directory in the local machine QFileSvr.directory.
• Logon to the local (source) system as the user and use the OS/400 Copy
Object (CPY) command to check your link and authority.
Note: If you have errors about exchanging security information when
sending files to the QNTC file system see the following IBM Technote:

I am trying to automate a save of our IFS web server files on i5/OS. I
have
V5R4 installed on the i, and am trying to send the files to an array of
disks attached to a network. This array has an address and the name
"Storage". When I create a folder under QNTC I can see the array and the
folders on the array. I can copy to the array from my PC and from qShell
with the CP fromFile /Storage/MIS/Saves/TEST folder. The size of the
file
being copied is 4.5 GB.

What I am unable to do is to create a folder on the disk array from
i5/OS.
When I try the mkdir shell command or the MD cl command I get the
following;

mkdir
'/qntc/storage/mis/Saves/test'

mkdir: 001-2128 Error found creating directory
/qntc/storage/mis/Saves/test.
Unknown system state.

The folder does not exist, and is not created when the command is run.

How can I create a directory from i5/OS? I would like to create a folder
on
the fly with a name of my choice that may include the current date and
time.

Thanks!

Jim
