I tried to keep up with the changes, finally settled on iSeries for
myself (and agreeing I find the most information searching that way),
but many here in the shop still use AS400 and we consider them
interchangeable.

Often, it's just 'the mainframe'.

Occasionally, it's 'the one that doesn't require a team of
administrators and technicians and continuing disk expansion'
(that one I'll use when talking to the MS people just to get a
rise out of them)

As of Power5 systems, the hardware is a Power system. As of V6R1, the
operating system is IBM i. V5R4 is technically i5/OS. Pre-Power5
hardware is technically System i (which IBM held was the name
retroactively for the whole family from B to 8xx and Power5 before they
called them Power).

Makes it so clear, doesn't it!

All I know is IBM i and System i are pretty much impossible to Google,
so my job searches are all for AS400 (AS/400 also messes up searches),
iSeries and i5. iSeries actually seems the most used.

It did?

What is it now? An unpronounceable symbol?
