Yep. Still pay maintenance fees for version 8 which is not planned for decommission until June 2010. They had version 9 for their AIX platform about 12 months before it was available on iSeries and even now not all modules run on iSeries. See any clue as to why we started looking for something else.

Bad news for us on running 5.4 in a partition under 6.1 so we can go power 6+. Guess that is out. I wonder if I could talk IBM into letting us keep the old box and run 5.4 and Lawson and make the new box 6.1 on a power 6+. Not sure how they would like having two systems with the same serial number running side-by-side under on maintenance contract :) Maybe I could buy a used 520 and run Lawson and 5.4 on that.

If you are truly going to Power 6+ then, according to Pete, the other lpar
cannot be 5.4 anyway, not even 5.4.5. You'd have to stick with a Power 6
box to be able to run 5.4.5. So under Power 6+ you'd have to have a
separate box for 5.4.

"Currently in the process of being certified"? They must have the theory:
Never do today what you can put off for years.
Another vendor that wants thousands in maintenance fees each year but is
under the impression that maintenance fees are supposed to be pure profit
and not actually put into the product.
Let's see, 6.1 has been GA since 3/21/2008. And the issue with ANZOBJCVN
and how to prepare for it was announced a year prior to that (earlier for
the major players ((rest in peace Al - I meant no slight))).

Does Lawson drag their feet this bad when it comes to W2 layout changes
and other governmental regulations and what not?

Once again, I have more respect for vendors that are ready on Announcement
day of a new release than those that brag to support V2R3. And I really
like vendors that issue statements dropping support within x months of IBM
dropping support (like V5R3).
