Chuck,

  Scenario rewritten:

yes, this is it exactly.

The best resolution IMO is to just create the LF as desired on
the target system, however that means the creation stream
establishes any expectations like creation attributes, ownership,
and private authorities; of course the latter is generally a
requirement even with restore [if not using the capability to
save\restore private authorities].

in my situation, for reasons i won't bore you with, this is not a
viable alternative.

To make the database expect the PF in library C irrespective of
the library into which the LF is restored, the saved LF must have
originally been saved from a library other than library C.  The
based-on PF must have resided in library C when the LF was saved
from that other library.  Attempt the following Test2 to replace the
failing Test1.

This is a software ptf distribution scenario - the idea was to not
have to save the physical if it wasn't changed, only sending the
changed or new logical. customer library structures are generically
named, while our library structure is version specific - the logical
on the source system is in a library and based on a pf in another
library that do not exist on the destination system.

This is a new gig for me, I've never worked in a product software
house before, and my first official duties are to revamp, streamline
and modernize the version/ptf distribution process.

It looks like my only alternative is to save both LF and based on PF
from the same library, restore to a temporary library on SysB, whereas
the LF is then 'crtdupobj' to the ultimate destination library -
moving it's based on relationship to that lib's physical.

It's funny/weird though, I 'kind of' tested this yesterday, and
thought I had it working, but I must have done something different
then. It was kind of a eureka moment at the time, but I can't seem to
duplicate it. oh well...

Thanks for being my sounding board. If you think of something else,
I'd appreciate it.

Rick
