Jim,

You can use a Tape from another LPAR or machine to restore the SLIC
from, just make sure it is the same level. This is probably better than
using the original I_BASE as you would have to re-load and apply the PTFs
that were on your 5761-999 (or 5722-999) product if you used the original
I_BASE cd. When you come to do this, you put the tape into the Alt. IPL
device (nice on HMC as easy to set), do a D mode IPL in manual mode, and
when you come up it will ask you restore the License Code. You want to take
that option, ** NOT ** any of the ones with initializing the system
(remember just restore SLIC).

Subject: Replacing damaged SLIC objects

We recently had a disk crash of the load source that was in a Raid set.
After the crash we found that we could not do a SAVSYS because of damaged
SLIC objects - the save doesn't even get to saving the OS before it dies. We
are performing a RCLSTG to see if this allows the SAVSYS to run this
weekend. If we still cannot SAVSYS then we will be restoring the SLIC.

I have just been told that the OPS staff have erased all older SAVSYS tapes
so I have nothing from this LPAR to "Restore Licensed Internal Code".

My question is - can I take a SAVSYS from a different LPAR that is running
the same OS & PTF level to "Restore Licensed Internal Code"? or do I have to
go back to the original IBASE CD & then reload the PTFs?

Thanks
Jim
