I usually transfer tape image catalogs using FTP, but I just did this on
LPAR1:

CRTIMGCLG IMGCLG(TEST) DIR('/imgclg/test') TYPE(*TAP)

ADDIMGCLGE IMGCLG(TEST)
FROMFILE('/QFileSvr.400/LPAR2/imgclg/virttape/gen001')

LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(TEST) DEV(TAPVRT01)

DSPTAP DEV(TAPVRT01)

And was able to read a copy of the virtual tape from LPAR2. The virtual
tape is now in two locations. LPAR1:/imgclg/test/gen001 and
LPAR2:/imgclg/virttape/gen001

The /imgclg directory has the attribute *ALWSAV *NO on all our LPARs, so
SAV and RST commands don't work unless I change that.

Have you tried that Scott? I can't use QFileSrv.400 and image catalogs.

Does QNTC or some such animal support that?

Can you get virtual tape to image catalogs to work this way?

Yes, you just need to either save/restore the *IMGCLG object with the
virtual tape files or create a new one on the destination box and use
ADDIMGCLGE.

What compression are you specifying when you save to save file? *MED is
a good balance between size and performance.

Can you get virtual tape to image catalogs to work this way? I don't
think that image catalogs will work on remote devices though.

Having some issues here,

I would love to FTP my data on a nightly basis to another FTP server but
this doesn't seem to be possible...

It appears that this is no issue what so ever if you are able to backup
to a SAV file and then FTP the sav file over.

Unfortunately my files are > 1tb and so I need double the amount of disk
space to do the backup.

My questions:

1) Why do I need to dupe my data to achieve this, why can't I stream it
straight over ftp?

2) Can I somehow split it up into many smaller files that can be sent
individually as the backup is processing and then cleared down?

3) How can I get cheap temporary disk space (preferably something like
IDE?) that's not going to cost me an arm and a leg just for this?

Cheers guys, appreciate your time

Mike
