I sat in a conference this week and we were told to create and use QCONSOLE1 instead of QCONSOLE.

Currently our system has:

Device description . . . . . . . . : QCONSOLE
Option . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : *BASIC
Category of device . . . . . . . . : *DSP

Device class . . . . . . . . . . . : *LCL
Device type . . . . . . . . . . . : 3486
Device model . . . . . . . . . . . : BA

I would think if you can use QCONSOLE1 then the config would have to be:

Device description . . . . . . . . : QCONSOLE1
Option . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : *BASIC
Category of device . . . . . . . . : *DSP

Device class . . . . . . . . . . . : *LCL
Device type . . . . . . . . . . . : 3487
Device model . . . . . . . . . . . : HA

As I said we were told to create & use QCONSOLE1 but I have never tried it. I wonder if you could even rename QCONSOLE and then copy it & use:

Device type . . . . . . . . . . . : 3487
Device model . . . . . . . . . . . : HA

We set up Ops Console on our 520's a few months ago.
Works fine; both my boss and I can sit at our respective
desks and operate the system (aka vegging-out), except when
for the part about loading tapes in the cartridge drive.

However, one thing annoys the p**s out of both of us. All
of our PC5250 sessions, except the console, are defined as
27x132, which makes it easier to read spool file members.
But Ops Console insists upon being 24x80. When I changed it
to 27x132, it barfed and refused to function. I've
checked in the "Operations Console" under
"System i Access for Windows" and in SST, but I
cannot find anything that will allow me to change the
configuration.

Couldn't find anything in the manual about this either,
but being blind in one eye and tone deaf in the other one, I
could have missed it.

Is there a way to change Ops Console so that the 5250
session can be 27x132? Or is it just something we have to
live with?

Thanks.
