We had a similar situation earlier. You've probably checked this already.

under HMC management and HMC config, there is a customize network settings
option. When that screen appears go to the Routing tab and check the
default gateway information. Make sure it is pointing to the correct
gateway, and the correct ethernet line. We have 2 lines eth0 goes to the
system and eth1 goes to the lan, ours had somehow gotten switched to the
right gateway but eth0 not eth1 under gateway device.

Can't reach HMC console remotely

I have tried repeatedly to get firmware levels up to current. We are in
the middle of trying to upgrade our iSeries operating system from v5r3m5
to v5r4 and I only have so much downtime every weekend to work on this
stuff.

Also, my IBM certified expert said that upgrading to HMC version 7 was
'rather tricky. You'll probably want me to do that when we get your new
machine.' Which we are planning a hardware upgrade sometime in the next
couple of months as well.

In the meantime, I have a very expensive, useless piece of hardware
sitting in my data center, because its of no use to me if I cannot
connect to the HMC from 35 miles away.

Thank you,

Debbie Wagner
