The before-image data may appear in a R-DL entry even when only logging after-image data. There is another attribute [another column in the output file; JOFLAG] as an indicator that there is a before-image present; i.e. denotes if the data will be there. The database may choose to keep the data in the log for recovery purposes; e.g. for commitment control. I believe at least one other case involves referential integrity; i.e. for which the data must remain for recovery, and thus is logged. As long as the entry data appears when the entry activity was performed under commitment control or when the indicator explicitly denotes the data will be there [regardless that the data might not normally be visible when logging only *AFTER] and that the data is not there when the flag is off, the assumption should be that the data is being saved for a purpose.
