Thanks Rob.

I think the problem is fixed. I followed these instructions from Rob's
post;

2a - Fire up iNav
2b - Expand your system, expand File Systems, Right click on File Shares,
Select Open i5/OS NetServer
2c - File, Properties, Security tab,
2d - Change "Allow authentication with LAN Manager password hash" to Yes.
You will have to click Next Start to change that.
2e - Ok the hell out of it until you're done.
2f - ENDTCPSVR *NETSVR
2g - STRTCPSVR *NETSVR

I no longer have errors when authenticating to am i/OS file share. BTW I am
at V5R4.

Any idea on the impact of allowing authentication with the LAN Manager
password hash?

Do you have a mixed case Windows password and are set for all uppercase
passwords on the iSeries? I think this can cause problems with Windows
when it sends the mixed case password that does not match. And I think (I
can't confirm this) that windows tries more than one time to send the
password when it fails and you can get disabled with a single click

I think the QZLSFILE job comes up once there is a share; the QZLSSERVER
(?)
job may have a job log that indicates if there is an authentication issue.
It's also worth checking the history log to see if you can get a bead on
any
others jobs initiated at the same time.

How do you know the passwords are the same - what happens if you enter the
user/password combination that is failing manually ? Have you consider
changing the password at both ends (i.e. windows and iSeries) to be sure
they are the same ? You may need to reboot after changing the windows
password to force it to try and make the connection with the new password
instead of some old cached copy.

I find these problems difficult to provide advice for...

Evan Harris

Thanks for the reminders - I had check the first 3 before sending my
message. Check them again;

Netserver - no users disabled
Permissions - I am the owner
Share permissions - read/right - no max users
No job QZLSFILE listed in WRKACTJOB
