Thanks for the response. While it would work, I don't really want to mess
with the string that was entered if I don't have to, and teaching users to
add a special character before a space would confuse them.

I had tried single quotes in the script, but not double quotes. I don't
know why I didn't think of that. It works well, forcing the jar command in
the script to accept the white space in the path name.

The manual I'm learning from does say that single quotes are "STRONG" and
double quotes are "WEAK" but does not explain much about what the difference
is.

I appreciate the added code Scott. Can I use a different status to know
which part of the script failed? Will I be able to tell in CL (same message
different code?)
