I have done a little analysis, and right now I'm leaning on NOT doing this.
Testing this on ALL the devices & emulators in our shop would be a royal
pain, and knowing my luck, the last one tested would show that it wouldn't
work.


If you use the code in the article I linked to first test if the device
reports that it supports WEA display orders, and skip outputting it unless
it reports it does so, then you have a pretty good idea you shouldn't cause
a device error when using it. I'd expect IBM's emulator to support it --
for other emulators all bets are off. They may or may not.

This is an example of how the system can actually do more than IBM chose to
expose via interfaces like DDS display files. And it could do this
something like 15 years ago...
