They'll only tell you to upgrade if you have a new problem on V5R3 for which they don't have a fix for, correct? They still take your calls and see if there's an existing fix, right Paul?

Secondly, will V5R4 be available to order on May 1 or do I have to order it before then?

If on May 1st, you have a problem that is V5R3 related, IBM will tell you to
call back after you do an OS upgrade. I hope you have stayed current on your
software maintenance agreement.

get the OS upgrade guide.
