Investigate insurance other than what the carrier offers.

Years ago we printed paychecks at HQ, sent all our sites, insured for value of total $ check run. When USPO lost a package, they would only reimburse for the cost of the paper, not bank costs associated with stopping payment. I was never able to get a satisfactory explanation from HR & Payroll how come people's social security numbers had to be on the remittance part of the payroll checks.

The USPO found the package a few days after we had gone thru the process of replacing the paychecks.

Today, most employees have signed up for direct deposit, but there's still a lot of stuff that goes by e-mail, snail mail, employee transport, etc. which contains either confidential company info we would not want into a competitor's hands, and/or personally identity info, that we would have to report as a breach if it got intercepted. The issue of due diligence applies to all sorts of data transport. Security is only as good as the weakest link.
