This is correct, though you do need to watch out for negative numeric
values passed as zoned. The final digit of a negative zoned numeric
value is not a numeric digit at all....

Very good point! I've had that problem when ftp'ing from the "z" with
people complaining that the field has an alphabetic as the last digit.
We had to make the field (in COBOL) a PIC S9(n) USAGE DISPLAY SEPARATE
LEADING SIGN to get a + or - in the front of the field (and expanded the
field by one position for that character as well).
