MQTs are pretty cool, but the implementation of MQTs in DB2 for the i
is only about 50% done IMHO.

The problem is that on the i, an MQT is only current the instant you
create it. If the base table(s) are updated, the MQT is not.

If you have:
1) Issue the REFRESH statement
2) Write code in a HLL yourself that updates the MQT periodically or
when the base table changes.

DB2 for LUW on the otherhand, support MQTs that the system keeps
updated automatically.

Wow, thanks for that. I didn't even know an indexed view is possible.
Sounds exactly like what I was hoping for! Are these available on V5R4? On
the page linked, it seems more DB2 generic than i specific. Guess I will
try one and see what happens...
