Correct answer is no, at least not without the SPENDMONEY command.

However, depending on your restrictions and willingness to deal with some
(significant?) tradeoffs, it may be hacked with STRSQL.

- CONNECT TO remote_db
- F13 and change the output option to 3 (File) and set the file name to (for
example) QTEMP/OUTPUT
- run your query against the remote db's table(s) only (it will be outputted
to the OUTPUT file)
- DISCONNECT ALL
- CONNECT TO local_db
- now you can join your local and temporary output table(s) and get the
result you want

Reason I bring up tradeoffs is that depending on the result set you're
bringing in to the local LPAR (the QTEMP/OUTPUT file), it may be a
prohibitively 'expensive' step (performance wise and potentially disk wise).

In any case, DDM is probably a better fit for this type of task.

Subject: SQL Join files between partitions.

In researching the archives and the books I have on SQL, what I want
to do does not seem possible, but I though I would ask the GURU (read
geek) list.

I am running STRSQL on LPAR A, and want to access FileB1 on LPAR B. I
know that I can CONNECT to LPAR B through a WRKRDBDIRE entry pointing
via TCP/IP to LPAR B. I now want to join FileB1 with FileA1 from
LPAR A to create a result set.

Can I have two database connections active in the same session? Is
there another way to use SQL to get information from both LPARs in the
same SQL statement?

Thanks for any suggestions

Jim
