Yes, but I was hoping to bypass updating the non-db2 file and use a
symbolic link. A symbolic link is basically a pointer to another file. So
you can create a symbolic link in the non-db2 part of the IFS that points
to a file in DB2. And it is usable and viewable with server based
applications like DSPF. Just not viewable with client based applications.
Just wondering if there's some magical combination of CCSID that would
automatically do the ebcdic to ascii translation

Is saying non-db2 file acceptable? Because, as you say, "IFS" encompasses
not only the '/' file system but also encompasses:
- QSYS.LIB (aka DB2)
- QOPT
- QOpenSys
- QFileSvr.400
and much more.
