Awesome, thanks. That just gave back about 8 percent of my system ASP -
which was much needed.

Ryan,

A couple of things about '/tmp'.
1 - At some release IBM changed an attribute about it and you may want to
ensure that you change it back. The problem that the IBM change did was
that if you use api's to send email from your i then it abends the process
leaving hung email (and a lot of files in '/tmp'). The reason being is
that user RYAN can send out the email but the IBM change did not allow
QTCP to rename or delete the files in /tmp and thus when RYAN handed off
the process to QTCP - abort. So,
CHGATR OBJ('/tmp') ATR(*RSTDRNMUNL) VALUE(*NO)
Seeing that you call it Root/TMP you may be using iNav to view this. Then
right click on '/tmp' and you can turn off the "Restrict Rename and
Unlink" there.
2 - Every time I bring the system down into restricted state I clear off
everything in that directory - subdirectories and files alike. I find
that
EDTF '/tmp'
and using 4 for delete and 9 for recursive delete work great. Leave the
main directory '/tmp' there though. Just delete all the stuff in it.
Doing this when the system is not in restricted state may cause
unacceptable results.
Seeing that you call it Root/TMP you may be using iNav to delete this
stuff - that's ok and should work fine.

Root/TMP

I noticed a directory on my IFS Root called /TMP. This directory is
filled
with Q* files that go all the way back to 2001...and all the way up to 1
week ago. Is this a typical AS400 folder? If so, are there rules for
deleting the files?

If this is not a typical file, is there a way for me to determine what is
using it?

Thanks. RH
