Hope this works, replying to SIMON'S reply in the archives :

<---------------------
I could have sworn this used to work, but now I'm getting unreadable messages in the log.
Message . . . . : 12 - SNDPGMMSG MSGID(SQL0206) MSGF(QSQLMSG)
MSGDTA(X'0006C1C1C1F0F0E200025CD500025CD5') MSGTYPE(*ESCAPE)

That's perfectly readable! It says "Column AAA00S not in specified tables." :)

Usual cause of this is setting job attribute LOGCLPGM to *YES either via CHGJOB or specified on CRTCLPGM.

If that's the cause then a properly formatted version of the message should follow the one you report.

If I call the REXX directly from the command line, I get the message on the bottom of my greenscreen.

Which indicates the Rexx code is working properly and will also work properly when run from the CL program.

Could someone tell me what do I do to get the human readable message in the job log?

Probably disable LOGCLPGM although that should not affect the command working--it will simply remove the logging message.

Regards,
Simon Coulter.

Thanks, but...

First, how on earth did you translate the message?!
Second, I don't understand why you suggest disableing LOGCLPGM. I need to see the message in the log.

I've now tried
RCVMSG MSGTYPE(*EXCP) MSGDTA(&MSGDTA) MSGID(&MSGID)
SNDPGMMSG MSGID(&MSGID) MSGF(QSQLMSG) MSGDTA(&MSGDTA)

If I call the program interactively, I get a readable message on the bottom of the screen.
If I submit the call I get this in the log :
Message . . . . : 12100 - RCVMSG MSGTYPE(*EXCP) MSGDTA(&MSGDTA) MSGID(&MSGID)

Message . . . . : 9100 - SNDPGMMSG MSGID(SQL0204) MSGF(QSQLMSG) MSGDTA(X'0006C3C4C6D9C5E200055CD3C9C2D30004C6C9D3C5')
