Do you have any SQL in your COBOL? Query Management queries are basically SQL statements encapsulated in an executable object of sorts.

DB2 is the relational database product that is built into the i OS - it has a different code base from that of DB2 on mainframes, but SQL is pretty close to the same on both. In addition, files (tables) on i can easily be processed in native RPG or COBOL. I just happened to see something about CICS on iSeries - seems lots of the files are implemented as what I know as physical files and logical files - the latter can contain keys.

Anyhow, here is a link with all manner of essential iSeries information - some we have already pointed you to - this stuff is on a site for business partners that need to learn what the box is about

http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/enable/site/porting/iseries/overview/fundamentals.html

Lots of good stuff - online courses, white papers, etc.

Have fun digging!

Do you have Query Management queries and forms on your mainframe? They can be imported to the i - there's some kind of manual on that. Not sure what differences or problems there could be.

Vern

There is no database software on the z at all. All of our data is kept
in either VSAM KSDS files (an indexed sequential type file) or "flat"
(sequential) files.
