Depends on the file. For a non database file (in the 'sample.txt' genre)
you could have it in
/mydir
on one lpar
and in
/QFileSvr.400/OtherLpar/mydir
on the other lpar.
Some people have been known to do this
ADDLNK OBJ('/QFileSvr.400/OtherLpar/mydir') NEWLNK('/mydir')
LNKTYPE(*SYMBOLIC)

For database files you can do a
CRTDDMF FILE(MYLIB/POINTERFIL) RMTFILE(MYLIB/REALFILE)
RMTLOCNAME(otherlpar *IP)
The only problem with DDM files is that sql won't touch them. SQL prefers
you to use the CONNECT TO technique.
And if one lpar is down, or connection drops, then your "pointerfil" is
unusable.

There are tools out there for sale to sync files.
