Is have you tried deleting and recreating the virtual optical device ? Is it
definitely appropriate for the images you want to look at ?
On one occasion I had a strange error with an image catalog when there was a
device in the real optical drive. The error code doesn't sound the same,
but...

Do you have write permissions to the folder that the image catalog uses?
Did someone delete the folder on you? If the image catalog is empty,
delete it and start from scratch, just in case it is corrupted.
