Permanently Applying Firmware

We're on an HMC and a 525.  The HMC is on 7.3.3 and the sole partition is 
at V5R4M5.  We are at CUM C8183540 and HIPER group 88. 

I'm writing up the in-house directions for firmware updates, which we had 
not done until last week.  This is HMC controlled and we now have:

*ACTIVE  SF240_338   MH01079
*TEMP    SF240_338   MH01079
*PERM    SF240_332   MH00000

A couple times a year we make the OS/400 applied PTFs permanent.  How do I 
do this on the Firmware?  If it's in the console handbook I've missed it. 
Web searches will lead me to how to apply firmware updates, but I can't 
find anything on making an update permanent.  Is it just not done?
