I take a big issue with this.

This is wrong - not staying current on PTFs or at least the security
groups is grossly negligent.

Staying on unsupported versions of the OS or way behind on PTFs
endangers you and your company.
Just because it worked successfully for some doesn't mean it's a good
idea - you can always get lucky, and even heavy smokers may get older
than 100 years, but that doesn't mean that smoking helps your health
or that it's a good idea.

Of course, companies can do what they want - but please don't advise
such careless and clearly dangerous behavior to others.
