If people do think that IBM simply changed the name, then we have little
hope for the platform.

I was discussing what the current perception is, and that *is* what people think. When you talk to people at conferences, user groups, forums, etc, do you find that they think IBM changed the technology and then changed the name to match? Or do you find that they consider "System i the new name for iSeries. and iSeries the new name for AS/400"?

I think it would be wonderful if everyone thought that IBM i was technologically miles ahead of i5/OS, which in turn was miles ahead of OS/400. But that's not a reality today. The bulk of the community considers them new names for the same thing.
