It isn't possible to do what you want but in situations like this I have the server job submit a job to monitor the server job before doing anything else. It waits on a data queue for a response from the server job and if it doesn't receive a response within a certain time period it cancels the server job.

Given a client job connected through a socket to a server job on an AS/400,

Is there, by any chance, some way I'm unaware of for a client job to
forcibly cancel its server job through the socket connection, even if
the server job is busy with (for example) some horribly complex SQL
call, instead of listening for client requests?
