No, it's what makes it possible to use CONST with numeric arguments. Pointer by VALUE and variable by REFERENCE are the same. CONST just means you consider it input-only (which fits with allowing the compiler to use temporary locations).

Thus QtmsCreateSendEmail is expecting pointers by VALUE but you can quite happily pass variables by REFERENCE instead as long as your prototype is correct.

I somehow don't think I'll be the last person to make this mistake...


Which is why I consider it a defect. You should open a PMR--before this gets too much use and then cannot be changed.

Really, you should NOT have to examine a C include to determine how to call an OS/400 API. ALL the necessary information should be in the API documentation.
