First, I created a library which precedes QSYS in the system portion of the library list.

Second, beginning in, I think, V5R4 (maybe R3) you have to be aware of what are known as proxy commands. CRTBNDRPG is such a command.

Third, I wrote a CL that makes copies of the commands I want to modify into the library mentioned in step #1. It, also, serves to document the commands and the changes to the default values.

Fourth, it isn't a good idea, in my opinion, to change the original commands. If something goes wrong (fubar), I can always whack the command from step #1 and, hopefully, get it right the next time.

We have changed the default values for parameters in a number of system commands ("commit" value for create RPG SQL programs, "dbgview" for any program compile).



Is there a method to ensure that these values are preserved when we upgrade the OS to a new release.



(Other than the obvious last resort of writing a checklist document and pray that somebody finds it on the day..)
