Yesterday, I discussed the situation with the technician at the first vendor to reply to Friday afternoon's call for help. (Reply privately for a referral) He concurred with me that the sidecar was probably deceased, one way or another, and recommended that I pull one of the unused 2623s in the main cabinet, and replace it with a 2810 containing a 2838.

At my own request, we went with a known-good 2838, rather than reusing the one in the 6617, and for a total cost of $140, including FedEx Priority Overnight shipping from Georgia (and his time talking me through the configuration process), said unit was in my hands at 10:20 this morning.

As of right now, our own production Wintouch is back up, as is our Code-on-Demand service.

So yes, as long as it runs what you need, and the spare parts are still available, and it's still possible for me to learn whatever I don't already need to do, a V4R5 510 is still a viable production box.

Next project: jettison of the now-inert sidecar.
