With a quick tip from Vess, things are starting to rock and roll. The solution was to connect to the console using remote control, which I could always start but never see anything but a gray screen. However, with remote control started, THEN restart the blade. The screen went black but eventually I could see the VIOS startup display, accept the license agreement, and be on my merry way.

So, at this point, I have a console to VIOS. I have a few configuration steps to perform and then I think I can use IVM to access the i5/OS partition.

So it wasn't a Gbit switch issue (at the moment). It appears that the AMM and VIOS communicate at a lower level.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Ah! That could be the issue! I'll have my son stick the cable end into the G-bit port and see what happens. Hopefully, something good!

Thanks,

Pete

The Copper PM has three connectors of which the top one is populated.
The connector actually branches to 5, cat5e cables (A-E) and all of them
are plugged into the switch. The thing is, none of the cat 5 cables in
the switch trigger a "link" light which makes me think that the PM isn't
activated. But, there really isn't much to configure or control on the
PM so I don't know what the issue is.

Is your switch Gigabit-Capable? It says there that the Passthrough
Module only supports Gigabit Ethernet.
