Recently, I found a PHP application that I wanted to work with native DB2
files. I created my own DB2 files, and converted the code in the PHP app to
use DB2 file processing. With this interface, I would have been able to use
the PHP app without modification.

You can already run PHP MySQL applications on an i, but you would be using
the MySQL database, and not the DB2 files.

And David, if you can get WordPress to work on the i (even with MySQL), let
me know. It suffered issues trying to redirect my PC to localhost
addresses.. I am sure it has to do with the two HTTP servers involved. I did
get WakkaWiki PHP to work, but WordPress is not that easy.

I'm curious about the above. Anyone know why other than to be a "me
too" environment?

The MySQL interface that's currently being discussed allows you to access DB2
data using a MySQL interface (which many, non i, applications already
support).

This allows you to use applications such as Wordpress, Mediawiki, and many
other MySQL based applications on an i.

So you get flexible and robust applications backed by a rock solid database.
Best of both worlds, perhaps?
